Folding Poker Tables - 3 Reasons You Want One

Tuesday, October 21 2014         No Comments

Author: Poker Mayhem

Folding poker tables add an element of fun to your home poker games that just isn't there when you play on your kitchen table. Like being in a casino, there is an exciting Vegas feel when you splash the pot on the colorful poker felt and out bluff your competition across the table.

So if your poker games with your friends and family are getting a little stale, look at these wonderful benefits when you have your own poker table.

Folding poker tables make the game more realistic. As stated before, instead of throwing your old army blanket over the dining room table and it bunching up when you try to rake in the chips, a poker table has a felt playing area. Under the felt is a pad that absorbs the sound when your chips hit the table which sounds more authentic then that wooden echo and the chips bouncing all over the place, just like real casino tables.

Folding poker tables have features for comfort and convenience. After long hours with your arms creased on the edge of a hard wooden table, you start to get pretty uncomfortable. Poker tables have cushioned armrests that surround the entire perimeter of the table to rest your arms on. They also have built in beverage holders for every player so you have a place to keep that beer from spilling all over the table.

Folding poker tables can be stored easily. Unlike a billiards table, when your poker game is over these can be folded up and put away, ready for your next game. And setup is just as easy. You are ready to play in a few moments. Poker tables are heavy, but they are still portable. You could fold it up and take it to a friends house if your game rotates.

Folding poker tables come in two common shapes, oval for larger games and octagon for smaller more personal games. For those large tournament games with more than 7 or 8 people, the oval tables can be as long as 7 or 8 feet long and have up to 10 player positions. The octagons are 4 feet across and are for up to 8 players where everyone sits facing each other, and all players can reach the pot.

If you have been putting off getting a folding poker table, I hope this has helped encourage you with the reasons why you really do want one. My games have never been as much fun as when I started using a poker table for my home games.

Poker Theme Parties - Guaranteed Event to Make Your Guests Completely Happy

Saturday, February 15 2014         No Comments

By Denise Lambertu

Theme parties are definitely the "in" thing nowadays. Prom night, Pajama, Masquerade and Luau are the most common themes for parties and sometimes, we need to stretch our imagination a bit more, getting away from the conventional themes to ensure a truly unforgettable party experience. Are you ready for a Poker-themed Party? Here are some pointers that could help you make your poker party a worthwhile experience for you and your friends.

You can actually choose the decoration yourself so that you can get the casino feel once your guests come in. Watch their eyes get bigger of amazement on how you've managed to transform your room into a Las Vegas corner. If you think getting the real poker tables would be a little too costly, you can just improvise by getting some large green felt paper and cover the tables with it. Make sure to attach it really smoothly until you get that poker table feel. You can also get playing cards to serve as the invitations to your poker-themed party. You just need someone who will write legibly on them. Something hand-made is always better than something machine-made. You get to apply some personal touches to it which makes the event more significant and memorable for you and for your guests. If you want that casino-type of environment, you can also get lights set up at the venue of your poker party which will add a more Las Vegas feel to it. If you want balloons, you can have them designed with playing cards and poker chips for the imprints. However, not too many poker players find balloons very entertaining because they find it a little distracting during a game.

And speaking of distractions, make sure that your visitors roll up their long sleeves to prevent them from hiding cards during a game. You don't want to end up losing in your own party just because someone pulled their poker trick on you. By the way, you might want to ask your guests to bring in their own set of poker chips for back up. You don't want to end a good game early just when everything's getting hot because you ran out of chips to provide the players with. Trust me on that. They will remember you for a poker party that ended too soon.

Another important thing to make sure of is the food. You don't have to get a catering service to serve food in your poker party. It's a poker party and not a binge out party. Having pizza delivered is a good idea because most people who play poker would agree that ordering pizza and being able to eat it conveniently at once is better to lower the down time in poker. You may also serve pica-picas but be sure to avoid serving them to everyone like a waiter because you'd end up distracting the poker players. Making this party a success really depends on how well you manage your guests and your venue. If everything turns out better than expected, you have a blossoming new career ahead of you.

Important Information Regarding Clay Poker Chips

Thursday, December 19 2013         No Comments

By M A Thomas

There are many people who love to play card based games and who take such type of gaming very seriously. People who enjoy playing poker that share a more refined interest in their tastes, will typically have a lot to say about clay poker chips. This is why you should take the time to learn more about these chips. In order to accomplish this, we might want to take a closer look at the game of poker.

There are still some people that might be wondering what type of game poker is. This is probably one of the most popular card based games in the entire planet. Like a lot of games the game of poker utilizes a standard or traditional deck of cards. Poker is one of the few card games that requires not only luck but a certain level of ability and talent as well. This might be why it is so popular.

Now that you have a much better understanding behind the game of poker, you might be wondering how these so called poker chips come into play. The concept is really a rather simple one. You might be aware that poker is a popular game to gamble with. The chips are used by casinos and other game coordinators to temporarily represent the money that is being gambled. They could also be used to simply keep score.

The bad thing about the market surrounding poker chips is that so many of the companies make them so very cheaply now a days. A lot of these low quality chips have been quickly made from cheap plastic materials. Many people consider such a thing to be very unprofessional. Clay poker chips are obviously made from more appreciated and expensive clay materials.

Poker enthusiasts really enjoy the type of game piece that has a classic style appearance. Clay poker chips offer such an appearance. The great thing about the creation of these game pieces is the way they have been produced. They are crafted in the highest quality fashion, sometimes they have been known to have been crafted by hand. Such pieces garner much more respect from serious players.

This type of poker chip has another possible use that a lot of people do not even take the time to consider. This would be as a valuable and much respected collectible item. These pieces, just like any classical style pieces, tend to grow greatly in value. While a person enjoys collecting pieces that are nice, they might want to stop and think about adding a set of fine crafted clay chips. Such an effort would prove their collection to be most versatile.

Just about everybody who enjoys a good game of cards will be able to tell you that poker chips typically come in specially designed kits. When it comes to the clay version, this is definitely no exception. Some of the nicest poker kits that a person could get their hands on might include chips made from clay. This also happens to be one of the signs associated with quality kits.

Now that you have been able to gain a better understanding of the game called poker you might be able to appreciate clay poker chips in a more appropriate way. This type of game piece always has that great type of nostalgic value attached to it. The quality is also of a distinctly higher level. People usually have really great things to say about these type of game pieces that are more classic in style and design.

While using clay poker chips won't improve your luck or skill at the game of poker, they will signal your intense devotion to the game. The best poker tables are designed for comfort and convenience while playing the game.

Having the Right Poker Chips for Your Home Poker Tournament Is a Must

Sunday, December 15 2013         No Comments

By Corey M Davidson

Being successful in poker is determined by many factors; the playing cards you receive and how you decide to ultimately play those cards. This also goes for the online casino, local casino, or in your basement during a friendly game with your poker friends. Placing the right bet at the proper time will allow you to get the most out of the cards in your hand. The way you organize and handle the chips you win will determine your overall failure or success in your home grown poker tournament.

The person who has the most poker chips at the end of the night wins. It is important at all times during a poker game, to know your chip count so that you can make proper poker bets. The more calculated you are with your bets the better your chances of taking down a big stack of chips.

A few problems started to happen with quality when the poker market started to get flooded by millions of sub par poker chips that were produced in Asia and other foreign markets. The current day avid poker player wants top quality chips similar to what you see at poker benefits or on TV during live tournaments. They want the poker chip to look and feel professional at all times. You have to try to weed out all the poker sets out there that have low quality and buy only a set that was developed with high standards in mind.

Every poker player that takes the game serious wants the experience to look and feel like a game that takes place in a casino. Creating a proper poker atmosphere will allow them to act like the pros, think like pros and desire to play like pros. Top of the line casino poker chips can be a major component in creating a more professional environment when playing poker in your home game room.

There are many top quality casino grade poker chips available that are ideal for home poker games. It appears that clay casino grade poker chips tend to be very popular in the poker community based on their overall look and feel. Unfortunately with new technology these types of chips are being manufactured with low quality materials but are being sold at high quality prices.

So buyers beware. Please take the time to do your homework. Sometimes a buyer can be attracted by a lower priced poker chip but the quality is compromised. If you take your time to research where you are buying your poker set from it will be well worth it. There is nothing more annoying when you purchase a product just to have it fall apart a few months later. If you buy the right poker chip set it should last forever.

When buying clay poker chips sometimes it comes down to your personal preference. It might be the color or design of the poker chip that attracted you to buy it. Sometimes it is the weight of the chip that attracts you to purchase that particular set. At the end of the day it is your call. Just make sure you do some research before you take out your credit card and make the final purchase.

Poker Hand Nicknames Explored

Monday, December 09 2013         No Comments

By Leslie M Shaw

One sign to show that you are really conversant with poker would be where you can show a good understanding of the various poker hand nicknames. Before we can get deep into an exploration of those poker hand nicknames, it may be a good idea, for the benefit of those coming across these things for their first time, to mention something with regard to what, exactly, a poker 'hand' is. And as it turns out, a poker hand is simply a poker card holding. Poker, as we are all aware, is a cards game. Now the question of 'hands' becomes relevant when trying to determine who the winner of a particular poker game is. A particular combination of cards is called a hand, and a scoring criterion applied to the different combinations, so that some 'hands' are seen as being more valuable than others. So in most poker games, it is the person who ends with the 'highest' hand who is said to be the winner of the game.

Since Texas Holdem is the most popular poker game, we now proceed to explore some poker hand nicknames in it, so as to get an idea as to what pattern the nicknames tend to take.

Starting with the hands that are made of the ace higher card, the nicknames we would be looking at would include the likes of 'American Airlines,' the 'Flying Nazis,' the 'Snake Eyes,' the 'Two Pips' and the 'Pocket Rockets.' What all these have in common is that they have two 'A' cards in them, so that the ultimate pattern will have an 'AA' somewhere.

For the AK card combination, we would be looking at poker nicknames such as 'Korean Airlines,' 'Santa Barbra,' 'Big Slick' and the 'Kalashnikov.'

For the AQ card combination, some of the poker nickname we would be looking at would include the likes of 'Missus Slick,' 'Big Chick' or 'Big Slut' to name but a few.

Moving to the type of hands that are characterized by numeral combinations, and taking, for instance, the 66 combination, popular poker nicknames would include 'boots,' 'cherries' and 'kicks.' For something like the 62 combination, a popular hand nickname would be 'Aimsworth' with 'Blocky' and 'Jimmy Summerfield' being popular poker nicknames for the '63' card combination.

For the type of hands that are characterized by combinations made of both numerals and alphabetic characters, popular poker hand nicknames would include 'Mobile Hand' and 'Countdown' for the T9 combination, with 'Sweet Sixteen,' being a popular poker hand nickname for the T6 hand. For the T5 card combination, popular nicknames include the 'Dime Store,' the 'Five and Dime' and the 'Woolworths.'

This is by no means an exhaustive exploration of the available poker nicknames. Indeed, it is hardly even a look at 1% of the available nicknames. There are arguably more than 1,000 poker-nicknames, seeing that besides these popular and widely used nicknames, in every fraternity where the game is played, we tend to see the emergence of local poker nicknames. Ultimately, it becomes essential to master these poker nicknames, though; if only for ease of communication during poker games.

No Excuses, You Need a Professional Poker Set To Play Poker

Tuesday, November 26 2013         No Comments

By Corey M Davidson

I'm telling you, if you're into poker, there's nothing better than having a pro poker set (well, unless you have a professional-looking poker table to go along with your pro poker set). Poker is a great game for many different reasons and shopping for and finding a pro poker set makes the game even that much better.

Just the other evening, I went to play some poker at a buddy's house. Mark always has a poker game on Friday or Sunday evenings. So, here we are, drinking our beers and lighting up the stogies, and sitting around Mark's poker table. Mark has a professional looking table. His wife Jill comes in holding this slick looking aluminum styled box. She places the box smack dab in the middle of the table and Mark flicks the lock open. It is professional poker set! Man I am telling you if this isn't keeping your interest peaked then you can't be a true poker player. Not a very serious one, at least.

Let me tell you some more about that expert poker set. It included 300 casino-grade 11.5 grey composite-inlay chips showcasing two places for your playing cards. Mark said that he would probably have the cards personalized, too. I was getting the feeling of actually being in a professional casino somewhere on the Las Vegas strip.

Now, I know--you might not share my passion (or would it be better to say extreme passion?) for the game of poker. You might think this all sounds insane. "Why is this person going so crazy over a pro or expert poker set? That total poker set probably cost Mark a lot of money. Why not buy some cards and plastic chips down at the local Dollar Tree store you ask? Well my friend that is sort of like being a guy that collects exotic cars and offering him a Honda Civic for his collection of exotic cars. It is like comparing apples to bananas when it comes time to play the actual game of poker.

The fact of the matter is that I really like poker, and I really like the atmosphere of a betting casino. I really like the concept of putting that actual casino atmosphere into the comfort and convenience of your own home. I don't believe in going inexpensive. Saving money is one factor, but going inexpensive is something else entirely. Cheap things deteriorate quickly, and are not worth it. You know the old saying "you get what you pay for." This holds true for professional poker sets too.

An expert poker set shows that you have a mind-set that you take the game of poker very seriously. If you're getting together with buddies for an evening, you want to enjoy that poker game of poker as much as possible. You want to remember it years later. You don't buy inexpensive alcohol; you buy the excellent items like Heineken or Beck's Dark.(Yeah, I realize some people like Budweiser, and as long as that type of beer is what they consider top quality then that is all that matters. But I'm getting off track.) You might even break out some whiskey or brandy. You will throw into the mix some excellent Cubans or Colombian cigars. Maybe you will crank some tunes on your iPod touch for them to listen to. You serve up some awesome hot food (you know, the type that you don't find in the healthy food section of the supermarket). Then you will sit at an awesome looking poker table, drinking top shelf drinks, and playing poker using a professional poker set. That's just how it is.

See, if you're going to host poker night at your home, you have to make the night magical. Give your buddies the complete casino experience. This includes playing with a professional poker set. It's more than worth it. Don't sell yourself short or you will end up completely regretting it.

Folding Poker Tables Are Needed If Hosting A Home Poker Party

Tuesday, October 15 2013         No Comments

By Corey M Davidson

Many will attest that poker is the greatest card game of all time. The excitement that one gets in enjoying poker is unique to any other card game on the planet. Poker allows you to tactically make the most of the cards that you are dealt. Once you start to play poker with some buddies you can pretty much play all night long. Yes playing poker is addicting because it is fun. There are several poker strategies you will need to use throughout the night such as bluffing and keeping your poker face to improve your chances of winning all the poker chips that are sitting in the pot.

There really is nothing better than having a bunch of friends over after a long day in the office and playing poker. When enjoying the game of poker at your house, you can always increase the fun of the game by purchasing the best poker equipment to make everyone think that you and your buddies are enjoying a pro poker competition. First, you need high-quality playing cards that are easy to deal, mix up, and are long-lasting. You also need a nice set of casino quality chips so your environment is of high standards. Playing with plastic poker chips will not cut it. Many people have gone to the level of purchasing a professional poker table such as a folding poker table and are very happy with the end product.

If you are planning on going all the way and getting a table, you can do well with a foldable poker table because it is less expensive than a table with permanent legs. Also the fold-away kind is also great for houses that are limited by space because you can easily fold it up for storage after you have completed your game. If you have a dedicated game room in your house then going for a full-sized table gives a very genuine experience. But for the majority of us the folding kind should be sufficient. Some poker dealers will sell you a foldable poker table set which also includes everything you will need to run your home based poker tournament.

When purchasing a folding poker table you will have to really consider what requirements you are trying to meet. Remember the most important aspect of your poker game experience is the table you play on, and you will need to research which table is suitable for you. If you and your buddies always bring beverages to the table when enjoying a game of poker, then you need a fold-away table that has beverage holders. If you want to have chip holders at each seat then you must purchase a table that has a place to put your chips in. You also need to consider who the regular players that attend your home poker tourneys.

If you have a lot of serious players, then a foldable poker table that is not durable enough will do you no good. You need a poker table that will last you a few years. Folding poker game tables also come in different types of colors. Some are green and some are red, and it really purely depends on what colors you truly prefer. So in summary you really need to take your time when purchasing a folding poker table. Make sure you take all things into consideration and buy the table that is best suited for you.

What You Must Know To Host a Home Poker Tournament and Be Successful

Friday, September 06 2013         No Comments

By Corey M Davidson

You have viewed poker on TV, perhaps played it on the internet, or even in a casino. Now you are ready to try to host your own poker tournament at home in your own game room or basement. Hosting your own poker tourney is much more personable than playing poker on the internet. The smack talk, the cross table body language, the feel of the cards in your hands, and the sound of the cards being shuffled are all great aspects of playing poker at home. Best of all may be the great feeling you have inside when you take down a huge pot of chips or make a great play and get some praise from your buddies. Of course, a badly run poker tournament at home can be a huge headache. So make sure yours is run right and your players will consistently return to your basement for your future poker tournaments.

To run an effective poker tournament competition at home you need a high quality poker table, some top quality poker cards, clay poker chips, some kind of blinds timer clock, and a strategy. Sure you can host a tourney with some cheap cards and chips, but our objective here is to make it feel like a casino experience so your friends will continue to return and play in the future.

A high quality professional felt poker table makes your poker experience that much better but it will also be one of your biggest cash investments. If you do not have a high quality professional felt poker table and do not have the budget for one you can still host a poker tourney with absolutely no problems.

The most important aspect to keep in mind is the overall experience your poker friends are having. If you decide to perform on a cheap table, it will be more challenging to deal with the chips and to collect cards after each hand. Cards will fly across (and sometimes off) the home-made table. If you cannot swing a pro poker table, consider some other choices such as a felt table topper or just buy some poker felt on the internet and cover your table with it. If you're a handyman, consider building your own quality professional grade poker table; it is not that challenging.

Quality poker playing cards are essential for a successful tourney. If you buy a two-dollar cheap set, they will become filthy, difficult, and get bent edges and have to be thrown out after 1 hour of poker play. It is well worth the investment to spend money on some top quality 100% proven poker cards. They will perform better and last much longer. You can even clean them if they become filthy. You will need at least two decks of cards for each poker table. This allows one poker play to be shuffling while one is dealing which keeps the pace of play moving which is important when you are playing with costly blind levels and timers. You should also get at least one cut card for each table to help avoid the end cards of the deck from being revealed.

Poker chips are absolutely necessary to host a serious tournament. There are wide variety of poker chip options on the web that vary from pennies per chip to dollars per chip in cost. You do not have to have the expensive chips to have an excellent time at your tournament. Chips also come with or without cash values on them. Poker chips with cash values can be very practical, but are not necessary. Chips without cash values can be more versatile as you can allocate any value to them. If you choose to use chips without money values just publish a graph of what each colored chip is valued at. The quantity of chips you need really depends on the number of poker players attending your home poker tournament. Make sure you have enough chips so each poker playing has enough chips to make proper poker wagers. (20-30 chips is an excellent target to aim for) You will also want some bigger denomination chips so you can color up the chips when the blind levels reach a higher value later in the night.
There are many choices for electronic blinds timers. You can use a simple egg-timer although this becomes very painful to manage as someone has to totally reset it for each blind change and it can be difficult to see at times. The Poker Genie is a great choice, or there are many programs you can get that will run on a laptop and you can even project your laptop onto your television screen. You could also buy a professional blinds timer and mount it to the wall in your game room if you are frequent player.

Finally, you need a strategy. You should know in advance what your buy in price will be, whether you will allow rebuys, what your cash payouts will be, and what your overall blind structure will be. Your buy in and rebuys should be spelled out clearly to people when you invite them to your tournament. No one wants to show up with $20 in their wallet to find out you are having a $30 buy in game. Payouts need to be made and the payout structure should be conveyed to the players or posted on the wall for them to see. Publishing your rules on the wall or via email will eliminate any late night arguments that may occur.
When establishing blind level changes consider how long you want your home poker tournament to last. Blind level structures depend on how many people are playing, the actual buy in, how many chips you are giving out and the value of each chip. Here is an example of an excellent blind level poker structure:

Round 1: 100-200
Round 2: 200-400
Round 3: 300-600
Round 4: 500-1000
Round 5: 700-1400
Round 6: 1000-2000
Round 7: 1500-3000
Round 8: 2000-4000
Round 9: 3000-6000
Round 10: 5000-8000
Round 11: 7000-14,000
Round 12: 10,000-20,000
Round 13: 20,000-40,000

It is also a wise decision to go over all the rules with the poker players beforehand and to announce a moderator to make rulings if necessary as well as a back-up moderator for when the first one is not available or in the middle of making a rule at another table. Take your time to plan your home poker tournament so you will continue to have your friends come back to play more poker tournaments in the future. Good luck and I hope your first home poker tournament is a success.

Turn Your Basement Into a Poker Room

Monday, September 02 2013         No Comments

By Shelly Pomponio

Although you can play poker on any type of table a real poker table gives a great feel to your poker room and to the game. First assess the size of your room, as this will dictate the size of the poker table. For smaller spaces look into the octagonal and circular poker tables they usually seat eight players. The oval-shaped poker tables are long and large, accommodate up to 10 players. They work better in a larger space.

Also consider the tabletop poker table or folding poker tables if you don't have a lot of space. You can just fold them up and place them in the closet. When choosing your table consider these other features that are included on a lot of tables: chip trays, padded armrests, dealer positions, rich felt tops and metal cup holders.

You'll also need some poker chips. The size of your poker game will dictate the number of chips you'll need. If your poker game has 10 or fewer players, you will need around 500 chips as this gives each player 40-50 poker chips to start with. In general your poker set will need to have 4-5 different colors, representing different values. There are high-end poker chips that casino's use and there are quality poker chips sets that would be great for your in home poker room. There are a lot of fun designs and colors plus personalized sets and chips. So have fun and pick a fun set to add a bit of flare to your poker room.

You can also have fun decorating with poker or Las Vegas themed mirrors, lights, signs, pictures, posters, and other memorabilia. You can add a slot machine, card shufflers, dealer shoes, a dealer timer or other casino items to give it that real feel.

Lighting is important in a poker room. Place an overhead fixture just above the table. Decorative pedant lights are a good option because they're available in a wide range of styles, shapes, sizes and colors. You and your guests should be able to easily read your cards, but you don't want the light to be too bright or harsh.

In addition to the poker table and chairs, you may want to create additional seating area with an additional pub table, sofa, chairs, end tables and a coffee, if there's enough room. This way guests who aren't playing can sit down and enjoy a drink until the hand is over. A bar is also a great addition to a poker room because it allows you to easily mix cocktails during the game. If you don't have space for a full bar, a bar cabinet or cart is a good alternative.

Improve Your Home Poker Game - Three Tips to Make it More Fun

Monday, August 26 2013         No Comments

By Mary Carper Smith

As a social activity, poker is hard to beat. Getting a group of friends to a home game provides many opportunities for friendly chat, social banter and just to hang out for an evening. It can even be profitable, although often money at a home poker game is just a sideline, rather than the main point of the evening.

But, how can you make the game even better? Much of the fun of poker depends on the environment. You don't want to be crammed into a tiny room, or perched around a coffee table. Take a look at these three essential tips to improve your home game without spending the earth.

(1) Lay on the snacks. There's nothing better than playing poker with a beverage and a selection of pizzas, or whatever food your group prefers. A selection of snacks can make all the difference to an entertaining evening. There's no need to break the bank when buying food. Frozen pizzas, heated in the oven, along with a selection of breads and chips can be just as tasty as those delivered from the store - at a fraction of the price.

(2) Invest in decent poker equipment. There are three 'tools of the poker trade' which can make all the difference to the quality of the game and the speed at which its played. A decent set of playing cards is easier to shuffle and less susceptible to getting damaged. In fact, it's always worth having a set in reserve. A poker table, or a table top for an existing table, adds the right atmosphere and provides the felt to hold the cards in place and stop them sliding. Finally, a set of poker chips is much more convenient than shifting around cash and saves all kinds of questions of the type "how much are you playing with?". Chips are always easier to glance at than cash.

(3) Get the right people. I can't stress how much more fun poker is with the right set of people. If there's someone in your poker group who is always anti-social, or who plays at a level out of kilter with the rest of the group, it can be easier to ditch them. Sometimes, getting the right people might mean making sacrifices. If there's a great group of guys who you'd like to play with, but they can't make the current date of your home game, consider moving to another night of the week. At least then you'll all be able to get together and play a much more social and attractive game.

So, there you have it. Three very easy to implement changes that can improve your home poker game. By just making one or two of these you'll have players who are keen to come back and play more. Make all three of them and you'll be offering the best home poker game in the whole neighbourhood.
